We aim to create an environment conducive to learning and building confidence.
Our goal is that each member of the team feels valued, included, and has ample opportunity to contribute to quality science. We actively work to recruit and support people who have been underrepresented in the sciences, recognizing that diverse experiences and perspectives are critical for moving science forward. Diverse teams are also more fun!
Our team is highly collaborative – we love the creative energy that comes from a group of people using science to solve problems and answer questions. Although our work focuses on pre-clinical models, we are constantly thinking about clinical translation.
Awards and Publications
We are committed to performing research with intention and integrity. Our publications include original data, collaborations, and methodology that may benefit other laboratories. Our awards demonstrate that our research is strongly aligned with funding priorities of foundations and federal agencies, ensuring continuity of this work.

Dr. Noller earned her BA, MS, and PhD from the University of Miami. She completed a post-doctoral fellowship at The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, followed by additional neurosurgical research training at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. Dr. Noller’s lab aims to perform translational research by integrating mechanistic assessment with clinically-relevant models and treatment. Her long-term goal is to improve the lives of individuals by translating experimental research into clinical practice and employing practical and economical methods in this translation. Her experiences as a first-generation student drive her fierce commitment to supporting and mentoring highly motivated trainees, especially women and other people who have been underrepresented in the sciences. Outside the lab, you can find her cooking, listening to 90s R&B and reggae, traveling, and doing hot yoga.

Dr. Xia earned her medical degree from Harbiu Medical School, China. She has over 30 years of biomedical research experience spanning physiology, neurology, neurotrauma, and respiratory illnesses. Dr. Xia has extensive surgical expertise with small and large animal models, and currently manages the microsurgical aspect of the lab, including training and optimization of new surgical techniques. Outside the lab, you can find her rock climbing, hiking, mountain dancing, and traveling to cool places.

Ms. MacLean earned her Bachelor of Science in Neuroscience and Behavior from the University of New Hampshire. She is experienced in various laboratory techniques, including animal handling, pre- and post-operative care, and data analyses. Olivia specializes in protocol development, including assessing cognitive deficits following neurotrauma. Outside the lab, you can find her cooking, reading, brewing potions, spreading rumors about speed walkers, and playing practical jokes on everyone around her.

PhD candidate, Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth graduate program

Ms. Bates earned her Bachelor of Science in Biology and Psychology from Longwood University. She is experienced in rodent models of psychiatric impairment, including behavioral assessments. Kathryn’s dissertation work aims to define how a novel pharmacological agent can be used to target the neuro-immune axis following experimental brain injury. Outside the lab, you can find her skiing, baking, competitive speed walking, reading, and teaching adaptive sports.

PhD student, Integrative Neuroscience at Dartmouth graduate program

Ms. Lyndaker earned her Bachelor of Arts in Neuroscience from Hamilton College, which was followed by post-baccalaureate training at the National Institutes of Health. She is experienced in rodent models of disease, including histological assessments. Anna’s research is centered on understanding sex differences following neurotrauma and psychological trauma. Outside the lab, you can find her hiking, baking, reading, entertaining Walnut, and enjoying a good theater production.
